Silver Surfer with the Infinity Sword
The Infinity Sword is an ancient weapon of immense cosmic power. Its acquisition is the main goal of the Super Hero Squad and Lethal Legion throughout Season 1 of The Super Hero Squad Show.
History[]
The Infinity Sword is an ancient weapon said to grant enough power to rule the universe. Dr. Doom originally planned to use it to rule the Earth and later the universe, but Iron Man stopped him. The result of their battle caused the Infinity Sword to break into several fractals called the Infinity Fractals. Throughout Season 1 of the series, the Super Hero Squad and Lethal Legion, as well as other groups, continually fought for control of the Fractals. At the conclusion of Season 1, when Galactus when threatened to destroy the Earth, the Super Hero Squad and Lethal Legion, having a temporary truce, reassembled the Infinity Sword in an attempt to stop him. However, the Sword proved useless against Galactus. According to the Silver Surfer, this was due to the Sword's true power not being unleashed, as it could only be fully operated by the being who wears the Infinite Gauntlet. After the Surfer stopped Galactus from consuming Earth, Iron Man entrusted the Infinity Sword to him, and the Surfer took the Sword into deep space.
For much of Season 2, the Silver Surfer used the Sword as his primary weapon. However, as a result of his keeping the Sword and using its power, he eventually became corrupted by it, turning evil as a result and becoming Dark Surfer. After being defeated by the Super Hero Squad, the Sword, as well as the Infinity Stones, disappeared, only later be found in the Cosmic Infinity Pool, the Stones having merged with the Infinity Sword itself. Dr. Doom and Iron Man clashed over the Sword one final time, resulting in both it and the Stones all shattering into Fractals, undoing all the damage the Dark Surfer caused using them.
Power[]
The Infinity Sword is described as a source of immense cosmic power, one even intriguing the likes of Galactus. Its energy was such that, when the Sword was originally shattered, one of its fragments was actually teleported back through time, millions of years, until Reptil found it in the present day. On its own, it releases cosmic energy beams, powerful enough to vaporize large buildings. To access its true power, the Sword's wielder must also be in control of the Infinity Gauntlet. When its power is combined with the Gauntlet ("Add infinity to infinity"), the user is effectively capable of doing anything, as shown when the Dark Surfer used the Sword and Gauntlet's combined power to scatter the Super Hero Squad across alternate dimensions.
The Silver Surfer was able to achieve a limited degree of control over the Sword through his own Power Cosmic. He was also able to combine the Sword's power with his own to perform unique feats, such as creating a pocket dimension to seal Ronan the Accuser in. Additionally, the Sword itself is implied to be sentient, and possibly malevolent, as shown by the Surfer speaking to it and later being corrupted by it.
